JOB PROFILE
The profession of aircraft technician is closely linked to the joy and fascination of aviation and helicopter flying. No helicopter or airplane will take off without the services of aircraft technicians. The job demands generalists and specialists. The generalist for a fundamental understanding of complex technical systems, mechanics, hydraulics, electrical engineering, etc. and the specialist for detailed knowledge of certain types of aircraft and helicopters and components. The activities in aviation are often a profession and a calling at the same time. The demands on the personality and specialist knowledge of the aerospace engineer are high. The professional satisfaction and enthusiasm that comes from this job is just as high. Technological development constantly offers new challenges and further training opportunities.
Training
The aircraft technician training takes three or five years, depending on previous professional knowledge, and is completed as a second or additional training. No entrance exam is required. The basis is practical training at a specialized maintenance company for aircraft or helicopters. The training usually takes place in the employment relationship. Theoretical training is organized in module courses, organized by the SVFB (Swiss Association of Aviation Technology Operators), in face-to-face lessons, or in self-study. After completing all module courses, a maintenance license according to EASA Part-66 can be applied for after 3 or 5 years. This license is recognized throughout Europe. With the passing of the in-house professional examination, the title of aircraft technician - mechanics or avionics is acquired.
